About the Artisan

Coupling my love of motorcycles and bicycles, I’ve turned my hobby into a business. Thus far, I’ve built 27 bikes for family and friends. Now, I have decided to offer these custom, hand built motor bikes to you. I have used both antique bike frames and tires as well as new models rolled right off the Walmart floor.

With my background in mechanics and welding; I start by elongating the frame to accept the engine. The trick is to install and align the drive sprockets, while not interfering with the existing bicycle. After determining tank and seat location, I then use my body shop skills to prepare and finish the motor bike in a new, vintage or rat rod paint job. I can pretty much do whatever design you have in mind.

As I approach my retirement from my day job, I will be able to devote more time to these orders. In a crunch, I occasionally convince a couple of my buddies, who are retired machinists, to lend a hand. These motor bikes are built in my Central PA garage. Remember Microsoft started in a garage. "HA-HA"

The question is, can you do this yourself? Yes you can, but why would you? I refined the process, found the best suppliers, built custom jigs and have accumulated all the tools and materials necessary to build it right the first time. Believe me, this is easy in concept, but not so much in reality. You will have more time and money invested doing it yourself than you think.

Let me build your custom Mule Motor Bike. It keeps me off the street and you on It !!!

Remember Mule Motor Bikes are a kick in the ass !!!

The History of Motorized Bikes

A motorized bike is defined by its pedal and engine propulsion. They were first conceived in France in the mid to late 1800s. The chain drive and invention of the pneumatic tire made possible the current bike form origins which traces back to the latter part of the 19th century. It was not until the late 1890s when bikes were installed with internal combustion engines that motorized bikes could be considered practical. These bikes were raced on oval board tracks in the early 1900s. These races proliferated in part because the bikes were inexpensive to construct and maintain. Unfortunately with the onset of the great depression, board track racing disappeared from the American landscape.

Competition

We feel an informed consumer is the best consumer and we will briefly provide our insights to other avenues you may consider before purchasing a bike.

eBay - there are a number of vendors at eBay stores. They sell complete bikes or kits. Prices generally range from $2000-$5000.

If you google search you will find an abundance of components or kits which require you to assemble and more importantly integrate into your bike. We like to think we take that headache away from your, for not much more money than you would spend procuring the parts on your own.

Bikeberry and Motoped are builders who we use for reference quite often. Lots of great photos of their bikes. Somewhat more expensive, but worth a look for ideas or outright purchase. Lastly, you can spend upwards of 50K on an actual antique or vintage bike. There is not that many out there so they are hard to find ones that are for outright sale, as most are either long gone or in a museum.
